The Phil Reid Memorial Trophy Dec 2025 / Jan 2026
From John Bowness:
The Phil Reid Memorial Trophy, a handicap singles, was represented by all five divisions of the league with the competitors split initially into eight round robin groups to give the competitors more matches with the group winners progressing through to the final stages.
There were many very close tussles even though six of the groups produced
undefeated winners, albeit all dropping games in winning their sets. Drew Harbidge, Eiz Al-Katrib, Jayal Mistry, Tony Monteiro, Ali Ahmed and his sibling, Omar, the six. Mick Box and Hamza Caratela both got through close groups.
The eight finalists played in two groups of four and it was a family affair in the end both Ali and Omar Ahmed winning their group, the former undefeated while Omar progressed by way of count back.
In the final Ali was giving four points each game to his brother, and got home in two deceptively close encounters 21-19, 21-19. A very popular competition well organized by Andy Wright.
