Details of the Elbow Tankard Summer League for 2026
The final of this year's Elbow Tankard, writes Peter Wilson, (the Leicester League's handicap summer league competition) was played at Knighton Park on Tuesday (8th Sept) night.
The finalists, Summer Spinners (Knighton Park) and Wizards 1 (Winstanley Wizards) had emerged from the same group and won through close semi-finals.
The two group matches between the sides had been close, so a close final was a distinct possibility.
Stan Dunne and Kai Bhakta shared the opening two games.
Muhammad Osman beat Hemant Bhakta 2-0 to give SS a lead which they were never to lose.
Penny Eames and Elijah Weedall shared their two games but Muhammad beat Kai 2-0 to stretch the SS lead to 6-2.
The two doubles were shared to leave SS leading 8-4.
Stan's 2-0 win over Elijah was matched by Kai's win over Penny but left SS on the brink of victory at 10-6.
The final two matches were both 2-0 wins for SS (Stan over Hemant and Muhammad over Elijah).
So, a 14-6 win for Summer Spinners; Muhammad player of the match with 6/6 singles (plus 1/2 doubles).
SS 14: Stan Dunne 5/6, Muhammad Osman 6/6, Penny Eames 1/4; 2/4 doubles
W1 6: Kai Bhakta 3/6, Elijah Weedall 1/6, Hemant Bhakta 0/4; 2/4 doubles
While the overall match wasn't as close as the semi-finals, a lot of the individual games were; SS won 7 of the 8 close (21-19 or deuce) singles games.
Congratulations to Summer Spinners, thank you to Wizards for playing the final at KP, and thanks also to KP for hosting the final (with a crowd nudging double figures).

I have already sent the details to the teams affected separately but the attachments show the changes for everyone to see (and to go on the Topspin website):
