WINSTANLEY WIZARDS III Vs KNIGHTON PARK XI

WW III held leaders KP XI to a 5-5 draw in this match

It was always going to be a close match on paper with player gradings very similar. However, it proved  to be a good night for WW's Steve Burrage. He led the way with a fine max and POM to go with it. Matt Weedall beat KP's Tony Scarborough before joining Steve in the doubles win to make the draw.

For KP XI, it was 2 wins each for Jayal Mistry and Paul Ducksbury, and one for Tony, managing to overcome Martin Leake in a 5 set encounter. The closest game of t he night was Matt Vs Paul that went in Pauls favour 10-12 in the 5th set and accumulating 101 points along the way

For the visitors, Andy Fleetwood and Chris Trafford both won 2 while Dave Fowler added his victory over Dave.

LEAGUE TABLE

The table still remains tight. KP XI retain top spot and are 5 points clear of second place but have played 2 more matches,

Holwell II leapfrogged Desford III to go second. KP XIII are 4 points behind 3rd place closely followed by Winstanley III and LTS who both have a match in hand

At the other end of the table, Fleckney II. KP XII and WW IV are all battling to avoid 10th place but there is a long way to go still

Fri 14th Nov Week 9

KNIGHTON PARK XIII Vs HOLWELL II

This match saw 4th place KP take on 3rd place Holwell with two highly regarded players coming face to face.

Div 4's highest ranked player, Stan Dunne of KP XIII took on ungraded but talented Andy Goodacre of Holwell II. The game was close throughout with Stan taking the victory 12-10 in the 4th set. Stan won all 3 games on the night with further wins over Stuart Bartram and Dave Sharpe. Jamie Buck and Penny Eames both beat Stuart.

For Holwell, Andy won his other two games, with Dave Sharpe also beating Jamie and Penny, leaving the doubles as crucial to determine the result. It was Holwells Andy and Dave that paired up to beat Jamie and Stan to give a 5-5 match result

LEICESTER TENNIS AND SQUASH I Vs KNIGHTON PARK XII

A good night for LTS defeating KP XII by 9-1

Chris Trafford took Player of the Match with a max. Dave Fowler also won his 3 and John Walworth picked up 2 wins, losing out to Mark Walmsley

There were some close games, particularly Dave Vs Robert Geary and John Vs Jack Bitenieks but ultimately it was a convincing win for LTS I

FLECKNEY II Vs NOMADS I

One league point separated these two teams at the start of the week (although Nomads have played 3 fewer matches) and that's how it will stay at the end of the week following the 5-5 result.

A good night for Nomads Martin Taylor saw him take POM with three victories. Terry Wale picked up one win against Rikesh Panchmatia to secure the 5-5 result. Martin and Terry paired up to beat Rikesh and Andy Haddon in the doubles.

For the home side, Andy and Drew Harbidge both won two, with Rikesh beating Rob Sanders in a close game, winning 11-9 in the 5th set .Rikesh was also involved in the closest game of the night against Martin. KNIGHTON PARK XI Vs DESFORD III

The Divisions top two teams faced each other with only 2 points keeping KP ahead although Desford have a game in hand.

At the end of the night though, KP extended their lead with a fine 7-3 victory

Gerard O'Callaghan led the way with 3 victories and POM. It looks like a tough battle though as his games against Neil Simpson and Joel Moulder both went to 5 sets. The game against Joel saw one set decided at 16/18, with the whole game reaching 110 points

Jayal Mistry recorded 2 wins for KP and David McBride one.

For Desford, Neil won 2 games and Joel won 1

KP took the doubles to secure the 7-3 victory

LEAGUE TABLE

At the end of the week, there were only two changes in position and that was where the bottom two teams swapped places, Winstanley Wizards IV going above Knighton Park XII

All other teams stayed as they were but the gap at the top widened with Knighton Park XII now having a 5 point advantage over second placed Desford Village IV although Desford have played one less match

Holwell II, KP XIII, WW III and LTS I can all put pressure on the top two as they all have matches in hand on both sides

With no clear leaders, this division is proving very competitive and difficult to predict!
